Churches are made up of people, not buildings,
but we are thankful for a building to use for our services.
We are in the process of doing restoration work and upgrading on the
building, which we call "Leave a Legacy." Of course, our real
legacy is the Word of God that is given to every generation.
The original church building was built here in the 1850s. Although the original building (formerly the Presbyterian church) was rebuilt after World War I, some of the stained glass windows and the bronze bell came from the historic building. One of the stained glass windows is dedicated to Virginia Farragut, Commodore Farragut's wife. Commodore Farragut was the founder of Mare Island Naval Shipyard.
Our building is not built like modern buildings so it is not easy to maintain. However, we upgraded the building to earthquake standards. We also built two new Americans for Disabilities compliant bathrooms on the first floor.
If you are interested in real stained glass windows - come and take a look. They are a priceless part of the heritage of the pioneer families who founded Mare Island Naval Shipyard and Vallejo a hundred and fifty years ago.
